MidCoast Water transfers sewage from North Karuah to the Hunter Water managed sewage systems at Karuah. MidCoast Water has installed a pump station to pump the sewage from North Karuah back into the Karuah sewerage scheme. A gravity main collects the sewage and transfers it to pump station 10 . The existing residential population of North is approximately 30 lots. Future subdivisions in North Karuah village - allows an additional 144 lots to be developed. A stub is located at the edge of the property along Tarean Road (Old Pacific Highway) to allow for future use. The property also has water pipes already connected.

Zoning

2-village under Great Lakes Environment Plan No. 28

Population Growth

The objective is to limit sprawling of the existing villages and towns of Port Stephens and to encourage more compact settlements. Growth may be promoted through forms of infill development, the redevelopment of under-utilised lands within existing villages and towns and a new subdivision that is within walking distance of an existing village or town’s centre or main street. Higher density housing needs to be investigated (and if appropriate, located) within close proximity (mostly 5 minutes walk) to existing services and facilities [Port Stephens Urban Settlement Strategy 2000].

ZONING CONTROLS - GREAT LAKES ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN 1996

Zone No. 2 Village
