Karuah a year after the bypass

A town coordinator has been appointed to implement the Karuah community and redevelopment plan.

Strategies in place include a rural transaction centre, main street improvement, foreshore upgrade, ferry links to the rest of Port Stephens and a future residential subdivision.

There is now a computer shop and broadband services. There are plans to open an internet cafe.

A Greek restaurant is set to open in a renovated service station .The local doctor is building a new surgery. Business in the local pharmacy has increased by 20% in the last year .There is a Visitor Information Centre in the town.

Several residential projects approved

A number of residential projects including a 105 lot release over 3 stages [ Riverglades Estate ] have been approved. This estate is currently being marketed .

Real estate in Karuah becoming more popular

Karuah now has its own real estate agency - Realty International.

Facilities in Karuah upgraded

There has been an expansion and upgrade of the RSL club.

The Herald. Buy-and-by view of bayside land

Mike Scanlon of The Herald reports that Port Stephens Council has bought "265 hectares of prime waterfront land at Karuah for future development" with the "potential for tourism, residential" and "commercial opportunities". "It will put Karuah on the map" said Mayor Craig Baunmann.

The Herald. Development boom

The Herald reports a development boom in Karuah. Port Stephens Council tourism manager Neville Deuis is "looking forward to working with the local community to implement an economic development strategy" and "employing a town coordinator ... responsible for working with existing business and Port Stephens Tourism".

The Herald reports that there is already a "$50 million plan to expand the golf club" for Karuah, as well as a "$1.4 million upgrade of the RSL club", and a "multimillion dollar retirement village in the pipeline".
